“Mu” is an original character that doesn’t have any facial expressions, but it holds a rich variety of emotions within. In Japanese, “Mu” (無) means “nothingness,” “emptiness,” or “a state of lacking something.” In philosophical and Buddhist contexts, it can also refer to the denial of existence itself or an absolute state that transcends all oppositions.

“Mu” was originally created as the mascot character for the ceramics club at Foothill College. However, as I continued to draw this character, I began to feel a wealth of emotions emanating from its simple design. Many people harbor inner emotions, and their expressions vary widely. I felt the same way about “Mu”, and even felt that people carry various “Mu” (mixtures of emotions) within their bodies like cells.

I hope you will view “Mu” from various perspectives. Whether from a fun perspective or a serious and thoughtful one, it doesn’t matter. Just like meeting friends, family, or a beloved one. In either perspective, don’t stop imagining. How can you identify someone’s feelings with 100% accuracy? Imagination is the key. I hope this “Mu” journey will help you recognize the importance of imagining people’s inner emotions. And please, communicate with the various “Mu” within your own body. You might discover truths you hadn’t noticed before.

むー]というキャラクターは、表情を持たないオリジナルのキャラクターですが、内面には豊かでさまざまな感情を秘めています。日本語で、[むー]（無）は「何もないこと」「空虚」「何かが欠けている状態」という意味です。また、哲学や仏教の文脈では、存在そのものの否定や、全ての対立を超えた絶対的な境地を指すこともあります。

[むー]はもともと、Foothill Collegeのセラミッククラブのマスコットキャラクターとして誕生しましたが、私はこのキャラクターを描き続けるうちに、シンプルなデザインの顔から豊かな感情を感じるようになりました。多くの人々は心に内なる感情を抱えており、その表情はさまざまです。私は[むー]についても同じように感じており、人々は細胞のようにさまざまな[むー]（感情の混合物）を体の中に持っているとさえ感じました。

[むー]をさまざまな視点で見てほしいです。楽しい視点でも、真剣で思慮深い視点でも構いません。友達や家族、恋人と会うのと同じように。どちらの視点でも、想像することをやめないでほしいです。果たして誰かの気持ちを100％正確に特定できるでしょうか？想像することが鍵です。この[むー]ロードで人の内なる感情について想像することの大切さを再認識していただけたら嬉しいです。そして、自分自身の体の中にあるそれぞれの[むー]とも、ぜひコミュニケーションを取ってみてください。今まで気づくことのなかった真実を見つけることができるかもしれません。
